As most of you will be aware, The Epping Society is a registered charity with the aim to improve our local environment and hold the local authority to account where it comes to planning decisions both large and small.
The last few years have certainly been a challenge with the voting through of a local plan that in so many aspects is totally unsuitable in so many ways. The gap between assurances given and delivery is getting wider.
The Epping Society for example registered a great many reservations about the newish multi story car park and regretfully it is bedevilled with problems.
You may have noticed that a number of long standing businesses are shutting up shop. Most are blaming the car park which ironically has cut footfall in visitors to Epping making business unsustainable. Reasons cited include the expense, lack of child parent parking areas and unsuitable disabled access.
On top of all that is that at night and weekends it becomes a playground for young men to meet and race cars / bikes and other anti social activity. In short it does not feel safe.
The biggest threat right now includes the implementation of the South Epping Masterplan and the effect that will have on the town in terms of traffic, pollution and unsuitable accommodation right next to the M25.
Further, there is a real threat to the GreenBelt that falls outside the local plan.
