**Exclusive Report** - Anti Social Behaviour / Drug Dealing Reported at Cottis Lane Car Park

Many of you will be aware that that Epping Society raised concerns some time ago regarding the design of the new multi story car park in Cottis Lane. Among our concerns was that the design, which gives off that 'Urban' Vibe would act as a magnet for anti social behaviour.

It is therefore a matter of regret that our fears seem well founded as reports of cars and / or motorbikes being driven at speed late at night, scretching tyres and possible drug dealing late at night has been reported to us.

The dealing of drugs was a problem behind St John's Church but it seems that this has moved to the Car Park which is protected from the elements and presumably keeps our local dealers nice and dry. So at least the car park has contributed to their 'health and safety'!!

However, we decided not to rely on second had reports and sent our very own reporter to check it out one evening last week. Here is their exclusive report of what they found.

'Last night as I walked past the Cottis Lane car park I heard the usual revving, so I went to investigate.

On the top floor were 4 cars and a group of young men hanging around, they had even brought deckchairs with them!

They seem to tuck themselves away into a corner, which allows them to monitor all traffic coming in and out of the car park. This was obvious when they started tooting to herald the arrival of another car racing up to the top floor.

At 22.38 the screeching started up, racing noise  continued for half an hour- not too bad this time but it was a quiet Monday night.

There are cameras - 6 in total - on every corner of the top floor, so all registrations should be recorded- someone should be able to follow up this constant disturbance?

I also noted the Fire panel on the ground floor has a fault light on. Should the carpark be open if there's a fault?

I took 2 photo's. The first was taken on the upper floor and shows cars hidden in the back righty corner behind metal sheets and the second shows the Fire panel with fault light'

This issues have been reported and will be on the agenda at the next 'Safer Epping' Meeting In August. We will of course keep an eye on the situation and report back to you with any further updates.

We do have a special favour to ask. If you have not done so please consider joining The Epping Society. It only costs from £5 a year and really helps us with our work keeping Epping a nice place to live and work. It only takes a few minutes by clicking on the button below.
