Epping Society Vice Chair Roger Lowry Addresses Epping District Development Commitee,

Last night The Epping District Development Committee held a meeting to discuss an amendment put forward by Qualis, the Developer of the Epping Plan for an amendment to the plan for the St Johns Site. The Epping Society opposed many aspects to the local plan but one aspect we dis support was the idea of building more affordable housing.

Qualis now want to go back on this commitment after putting forward a supposed independent study commissioned by them to say that it is no longer sustainable to the tune of £9 Million pounds.

The committee voted to accept the Qualis recommendation that the amount of affordable housing be reduced. Another example of moving goalposts and previous commitments being binned.

Another big question is that Qualis is owned by the council and the council are voting in line with Qualis recomendations. This is tamtamount to letting a child mark their own homework and calls into question the independence of decisions.

The Committee did vote as well to send for full Council consideration which will be in February.
